NEARBY OBSERVATIONS

Recent water temperature at a nearby station

A recent weather lookup can also offer a little context about nearby water. Where suitable NOAA observations exist, YesterSky shows one observed average for the same date you selected.

Check your location

Enter a U.S. ZIP code or city and state, then choose a recent date.

Find the optional Nearby water section

After the weather result loads, look below its main metrics and observation timeline for Nearby water. Expand it to see the station, selected date, average observed water temperature and approximate distance. The section starts closed so the weather answer stays easy to scan.

Coverage depends on a suitable NOAA CO-OPS station within 40 kilometers, compatible local time rules and enough usable readings. Many inland places, and some coastal cities, have no qualifying result. If the section is absent, YesterSky has no supported water summary to show for that lookup.

What the average means

The number is the arithmetic mean of accepted six-minute readings during your selected location’s local calendar day. Duplicate timestamps count once. Missing or flagged readings are excluded; gaps are never filled with zeros or estimates. YesterSky requires broad coverage across the day before showing an average.

This is a summary of recent observations, not an official certified daily average. Changing Fahrenheit or Celsius converts the same underlying value; the displayed number is rounded to a whole degree.

Read the station and water-body label

Harbor water temperature can differ from an open coast, beach or upstream river. A nearby station is a particular measurement site, not a reading at your property. For example, a Seattle lookup may show Commencement Bay at Tacoma; its name and distance remain visible.

The result describes the selected historical day. It is neither current water temperature nor a swimming-safety report, and it cannot establish beach conditions.

See the water-data methodology for quality and coverage rules, or return to the recent weather guide for rain, cold and wind context.
